Practical information for 2024 IPES Conference 

Venue | Accommodation | Getting to the Venue

Event venue 

Please be aware that the European University Institute (EUI) campus is made of multiple buildings. The conference will take place at the Badia Fiesolana, Via dei Roccettini 9, 50014 San Domenico di Fiesole (FI). The EUI is a secured and relatively remote location on a steep hill around 8 kilometers (5 miles) from Florence. Please keep this in mind when considering your travel arrangements. 

Getting to Florence 

Due to the anticipated high travel demand, we recommend securing a flight booking as soon as possible. EUI and IPES are not liable for reimbursing the cost of travel or accommodation made by participants for any reason.  

By air 

  • Florence Peretola Airport (8 km from the city centre): information for travel to & from the airport can be found here

  • Pisa International Airport, or Galileo Galilei airport (85 km from Florence): information for travel to & from the airport can be found here

  • Guglielmo Marconi Bologna International Airport(105 km from the centre): information for travel to & from the airport can be found here

By rail 

You can reach Florence by train using either  Trenitalia  or  Italo. Florence central station is Santa Maria Novella

Accommodation 

We have pre-booked some rooms at the hotels below. Please contact the hotel directly to book your room before August 23rd.  After this date, the hotels will release the IPES block rooms to the general public.  

Option 1: FH55 Grand Hotel Mediterraneo: add the code IPES24 to get the discounted rate (134 euros per night) when booking your room on the hotel website: 

Option 2: Wtb Hotels: please make your booking by sending an email to booking@wtbhotels.com and l.parato@wtbhotels.com , you will have to provide the code IPES24. 

Option 3: NH Firenze: please  book your room using the following link: https://www.nh-hotels.com/en/event/ipes-eui-conf (170 euros per night).  

  • Your booking must be made directly with the hotels; 

  • EUI is not liable for reimbursing the cost of travel or accommodation made by participants for any reason; 

  • We strongly recommend that you book your accommodation in the above hotels so that the transportation arrangements can be streamlined. If you would like to book your accommodation in other places, we remind you that the European University Institute is located in Fiesole, on the hills overlooking Florence. Therefore, we suggest booking your accommodation near bus route number 7 to facilitate transportation to the venue.  

Getting to the venue 

Shuttle service 

We will organize a shuttle service with the following schedule. These shuttles will have limited seating, so we urge participants to select their preferred shuttle and book it by way of the EUI registration link (when it will be made available). It is not strictly necessary to stay at one of the conference hotels in order to secure your place on the shuttle.

By taxi 

You can call +39 055 4242 or +39 055 4390 or there is a taxi stand outside the Santa Maria Novella train station; ask drivers to take you to the Badia Fiesolana. Rideshares such as Uber and Lyft, at the time of writing, only have limited availability and should not be relied on. 

By public bus 

Departing from Santa Maria Novella train station: take bus number 7 and get off at bus stop San Domenico 01 (map). Then, walk about 5 minutes until you reach the Badia (map). 

Health Insurance 

We strongly encourage all participants coming from outside Europe to stipulate individual/private health insurance for your entire stay in Florence from the day you depart from your home country to the last day of your travel. The host institution (EUI) is not liable for any personal health occurrences that happened during your visit.
